GMS and iOS7

posted Sep 29, 2013, 6:23 PM by Mike Zachry

There is a bug in GMS that surfaces after upgrading to iOS7.  The Options menu is no longer accessible as it conflicts with the iOS7 menu that is accessed by a swipe up from the bottom of the screen.  We're sorry for the inconvenience and are working on a fix as fast as we can.

mindMender GMS Update

posted Feb 19, 2013, 1:16 PM by Mike Zachry   [ updated Feb 19, 2013, 1:18 PM ]

During a recent visit to USC it was brought to my attention that if a therapeutic app is to be effective it must be engaging and have some element of entertainment.  Unfortunately mindMender GMS currently lacks both.  In fact there was some concern expressed that mindMender GMS might not get used as much as it could without being more engaging and entertaining.  To address this I've added a game to our suite of mindMender apps called Traffic Control.

Traffic Control is a line drawing based game similar to Flight Controller or Harbor Master but designed for use by stroke and TBI survivors including:
  • Easy, Medium, Difficult and Expert levels.  Unlike most games, which automatically increase in difficulty the longer you play, as the patient improves they will be prompted to jump to a higher level.
  • Score are stored over time and displayed for quick analysis.
  • Less clutter on the screen to reduce confusion and distractions.
  • Larger buttons to promote use without assistance.
Let me know what you think about this change in direction.  I value and appreciate your feedback.

mindMender GMS Screen Shots

Here are some screen shots from the mindMender GMS (Gross Motor Skills) exercise book.  This app for the iPad is intended to be used to do as many exercises one after another during a 15 to 30 minute session.  This exercises the brain's ability to build new pathways around the damaged area.
